I was introduced to Hudson Automotive in 2024 when I got a new /used VW Suv. From day one Sean, one of the Owners, & Michael have been the epitome of professional service. Their prices are fair. They recognize loyalty and if I have a question or I have a small thing I need them to take a look at, they will tell me come on down and we'll help you out. The work they do is backed by their personal guarantee. All of their mechanics are skillful and knowledgeable, and have the same professional Customer Service focus. I would highly recommend anyone to go to Hudson Automotive for their car care needs.

Just paid $300 on the diagnostic fee on the problem that we know already existed.

Hudson Automotive has worked on my 1994 Chevy 1/2 pickup truck twice over the last few years and both times did an excellent job. I've owned the truck since new and it has almost 300k miles. In 2021 they removed my gas tank and arranged to have it decontaminated (boiled & cleaned), replaced my fuel pump, fuel filters, complete distributor assy, coil, plugs & wires. Last week (Feb 2026), Hudson replaced my heater hoses, upper/lower radiator hoses, & thermostat, flushed the cooling system, plus they replaced the serpentine belt along with 2 belt idler pulleys. In all both cases Hudson went the extra mile in sourcing and using the highest quality parts available for my '94 Chevy truck (e.g. OEM-AC DELCO, Delphi, Gates, Wix, etc). The gentleman at Hudson (Mike & Sean) are very professional, knowledgeable, friendly and responsive to any questions one might have. I highly recommend Hudson Automotive for servicing your most prized automobile regardless of how big or small the repairs. Thanks Mike and Sean!

Found pretty much all the issues with my car at the 120K check-up. Check-up was great! Topped up all the fluids, checked everything except the spark plugs (which were already done) and fixed the issue with the rear brake (uh, I think the ex-spouse probably did not drain something correctly, and there was water where there was not supposed to be any water). Very prompt, I liked the check-in calls a lot just so I knew when/where to pick up the car. Would definitely recommend for great car of your car. I have a very old 2005 Mazda, and hopefully it'll keep running great for the next 100K miles.

Mike and Sean were great to work with when I had a bad bearing on my truck. They were prompt and communicated everything. I will be going back to them for all my other vehicles needs.

I took a potential new vehicle in here to be inspected before purchasing. Mike helped me out and took a lot of time to explain all of his observations and give me an honest opinion. After deciding to pass on the vehicle, he went the extra mile to send me some other vehicles that he thought would be a good fit. I later purchased a different vehicle which I also brought in for inspection. I was provided with the same diligence and care throughout this inspection as well. Although I haven't done any service work with them yet, I will be bringing my car here in the future as I feel they are a trustworthy and honest shop.

I had no clue that my car breaks were almost about to fail and they saved my and my childrens life! They were very fair and communicated throughout the day of what they were going to do to my car. There were no hidden charges in the end. They were extremely professional, wise, comforting and made my experience the best ever. I will continue to drive 45 minutes just to use them and will send referrals to this amazing automotive business. Their shop is also amazing, you feel like you are in a beautiful automotive museum....clean, Professional and top notch mechanics! They are my super mechanic hero's! Best macanic you could ever go to for older cars. Been taking my 93 GMC Sanoma truck there for years. They take great care of my truck and give a very honest and open review of what needs to be done for safety and what you can get away with waiting on doing.

I've been using Sean and his crew for the past 10 years and they are outstanding. They can do it all, from fabrication work on classic cars to warranty service on newer models. His dad started the business in the 70's and Sean has continued the tradition, with a very loyal customer base that knows they can trust him. Bottom line: this is the place in San Mateo to get your car fixed.

Have known the Hudson family for years, they are the best! That’s why I keep coming back with all my cars and trucks. Will hit 250,000 miles on my Chevy truck this year because they know how to keep it running.

My wife and I have been taking our cars into Hudson Auto for about four years ago, and I've been remiss in not providing a review of recommendation (although based on their existing Yelp reviews, they obviously have not needed it!) The Hudson team (Sean, Mike, and the guys) are consistent with their professional, knowledgeable and friendly service. This team knows and loves cars, and it shows. I've seen other shops where a love for cars can translate into an overly masculine (and at times unwelcoming) culture, especially for women. That is not this shop! Instead of wall calendars with women draped over cars, think of cool car geeks who want to talk about a 1970's Datsun 510... yep, that cool. I'm not even a car lover, but every time I visit I come out with a greater appreciation of them. They don't just love cars at Hudson, they want to help you to take great of your car to ensure it performs at it's best. They are not the cheapest in the short term (like Jiffy Lube), but by performing regular quality maintenance on your car with Hudson Auto makes for a strong value proposition in the long run. Besides, we all really know that if you want high quality, it is not going to be the least expensive option. Or as their motto goes, "just fix it!" Finally, by servicing your car at Hudson, you'll be shopping local and supporting a great small business... great job Sean, Mike, and team! Your excellence makes the decision an easy one for me.

This is most honest and trustworthy automotive shop ever. They helped us out so many times and never once did I feel like they were trying to get over on me. All the people there are fantastic. I take all my cars there now and will be for the foreseeable future.

There's guys are fantastic. Family fun business who care about the work they do. Don't charge for things they don't fix. Don't charge if they can't find the problem. Shop is very professional and clean as well...can't recommend them enough.

Great service, took less than 2-days to repair, and they even gave me a ride to work after I dropped my car off!! Thanks guys, I'll be back next time I have a problem!

Initially was upset because 1) they charged me $150 just to run a code reader and tell me my O2 sensor needs changed- and 2) they quoted me $500 to replace both in addition to the $150. I ended up buying the part for $60 bucks and in 10 minutes I had changed the upstream sensor myself. However, when I came back, they offered to reset my check engine light for free. They are always polite with me and do a great job - however what keeps me from putting 5 stars is that there prices are relatively high. You get good and prompt service- but you'll probably find a cheaper deal if you shop around.

My husband and I are SO thankful we chose to have a car pre-inspected at Hudson Automotive...otherwise, we would have made a purchase we'd surely regret! See my review on Veracom Ford for the whole story, but Sean was a pleasure to deal with, even though he had unfortunate news to report on our prospective car :) Because of the headaches we were getting from the whole experience (being from out of the area), Sean even offered to pre-inspect additional cars for us at no extra charge. We were very impressed with this service and professionalism. If we lived in San Mateo, we'd definitely take our cars to him on a regular basis!

Honest and reasonable!!! Two things that are rare in the car business - Sales or Service. I can't imagine bringing my car anywhere else. Sean and Mike give honest advise as to what is needed NOW and what you need to plan for in the near future. I'd give 6 stars if I could!!!!

Just had Hudson Auto work on my '71 Super Beetle Convertible. Sean was awesome! There is nothing like having someone look you right in the eye when they tell you exactly what is needed to be done to your car. Sounds like something you should find everywhere, but you don't, unfortunately. This is exactly what Sean (and Mike) did. Looked me right in the eye every time I spoke with them. Says a lot, in my opinion. Went in to have Sean check on the carb, since it was running a bit rough, and also had him check on the 'typical' Super Beetle shimmy. I had already replaced the steering dampener, idler arm bushing, sway bar bushings and tires. Next thought was the control arm bushings, so I had him take a look at those. He did and found the arms and bushings to be in good condition. He did, however, find that my tie rod assembly (ends, specifically) was in poor condition and suggested they be replaced as soon as possible. Given the situation, I asked him to move forward with the repair and I cannot thank Sean enough for this, since he likely saved my life. Seriously. I drive this car practically every day, including on the freeway. If any part of this assembly would have broken, I would likely have had a pretty serious incident. Making the adjustments to the carb, timing and a few other things has made this baby run smoother than it has in a long while. Love it! Replacing the assembly fixed my shimmy and I feel safer driving it! Who woulda thunk it? Sean did, that's who! :) The work done on the car was excellent. Sean even worked with me on pricing, which was very much appreciated. He got the car back to me sooner than I was anticipating, which was a bonus. The garage is immaculate, which just supports how great the people are that work here. They take pride in their work and the place they work. Just another thing that says a lot, to me. When I called about having my car looked at, Sean requested for me to schedule a time to bring my car over. Scheduled it for a couple of days later (8am) and he was there as scheduled! He respected my time, which is another quality that I appreciate. Thanks again, Sean! Although I wish I never need your services again, I am pretty sure that we will see each other again. Keep up the great work!

These guys are the best. Straightforward, speedy, clear explanations of everything. I am annoyed I paid for an extended warranty on my car - if I had it to do over, I'd save the money and just bring the car to Sean every time

My son and I brought in a 1972 Buick Riviera to make road worthy. Being on a budget, Sean took me through the entire process slowly and carefully and explained every fix, the reason to do it and the cost. I felt very secure we were doing the right things at the right time and at the right cost. The car drives very well and I am extremely satisfied. I will have Sean work on another Riviera I just bought. His crew is also very helpful and proficient. I am putting a "+" after the "5" for this review.

Hudson Automotive provides professional customer service with a focus on quality for your automobile. An excellent experience all around! My toyota tacoma is running better than it ever has. Sean & Mike's detailed assessment of your automobile's situation with options of what is important now as well as down the road is welcomed and appreciated. They take the time to review EVERYTHING with you. They set up a rental car for me while they fixed my truck and had the same rental car company pick up from their shop when my truck was ready - couldn't have been any easier.
